Topologies in Computer Network Design
When it comes to computer network design, it is integral to have clear understanding of what star, bus, ring topologies and the likes are. Designing computer network has to meet some rules and such rules are all called as topology. These days, Ethernet is the most widely used topology put in use which consists of peripheral cables and computers together in specific ways. It’s because of the reason that Ethernet is relatively affordable, easy to set up and use and also, fast. As a matter of fact, there are two different types of Ethernet and these are the fast and standard Ethernet.

Number 1. Bus topology – basically, this type of topology is using backbone when connecting a device. Number 2. Ring topology – in this kind of computer network design, there will be two neighbors for every device in relation to the communication. As a result, every piece of data is travelling either counterclockwise or clockwise in same direction. If there’s failure in the cable, then the entire network will stall and fail soon after.
When using ring network, every device has two neighbors for the communication process. All messages sent are going to travel in the same direction in the ring. Failure in any device or cable will then break the loop and will take down the whole network.
Number 3. Star topology – the truth is, residential properties are the ones that are taking advantage of this topology. This is going to feature connection point such as hub switch or router and UTP Ethernet are the devices that are frequently used to connect.
Number 4. Tree topology – in relation to this computer network design, it is using multiple start topologies that are connected onto a bus. Compared to a bus or star, this can provide you with better network expandability.
